Radwanska is using this ill-timed tournament as her final tune-up for the Roland-Garros 2012 French Open grand slam which starts tomorrow, May 26. With her win, she now has tied world no. 1 Victoria Azarenka with a WTA-leading 35 wins this year. She will be fighting it out with Simona Halep who advanced to the final by defeating fellow unseeded player Sofia Arvidsson, 64 63.

The total prize money for the tournament is $637,000 with the winner taking home $107,000 in prize money and 470 ranking points while the runner-up earns $57,000 in prize money and 320 in ranking points.

Despite being a premier tournament, most of the top players skipped attendance due to the bad timing of the tennis tournament. Held a week just before the start of the second grand slam of the year, only four top 20 players showed up to play earlier in the week. World no. 7 Marion Bartoli was eliminated in the second round losing to qualifier Urszula Radwanska, Agnieszka's younger sister. Halep defeated the other top 20 players - world no. 17 Dominika Cibulkova and no. 20 Jelena Jankovic on her way to the final. Other top 20 players - world no. 11 Angelique Kerber and no. 19 Roberta Vinci initially signed up to participate but withdrew due to a low back injury and a right wrist injury, respectively.

For Radwanska, it was not a smooth start as No.8 seed Kanepi's massive serves and groundstrokes helped her build a 5-1, two-break lead in the first set; but the No.1-seeded Radwanska shifted gears from there, winning five of the next six games to push the first set to a tie-break, then saving two set points there to close the set out. Radwanska would rally from 2-0 down in the second set too. As for Halep, this is her third WTA final but first on a premier-level tournament. Halep's first two WTA finals came at the smaller International-level clay court event in Fès in 2010 and 2011, both of which ended up in straight set losses to Iveta Benesova in 2010 and Alberta Brianti in 2011, respectively.

Radwanska beat Halep handily in their only previous meeting at the round of 32 in the 2011 Australian Open where she scored a 6-1 6-2 victory. Watch the Brussels Open 2012 finals live online featuring Radwanska vs Halep through TennisTv.com.
