WTA Women's Tennis Rankings as of May 28, 2012

The WTA women's tennis rankings were released early today after the conclusion of the Brussels Open 2012 and the Internationaux de Strasbourg 2012 tennis tournaments. World no. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland captured her third title of the season in Brussels, while former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone won her first WTA tour title since her Roland Garros win two years ago in Strasbourg, France. The new rankings didn't have any changes in the top 10 but some minor movements happened in the top 20.

Schiavone moved up two spots to no. 12 causing a downward movement in the rankings of Sabine Lisicki and Ana Ivanovic. Both players moved down one spot each and Lisicki is now no. 13 while Ivanovic is now at no. 14. Top ranked Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Radwanska, Petra Kvitova and Serena Williams remain in the top 5. This ranking will next change after two weeks when the results of the Roland Garros 2012 French Open grand slam gets included. At this point, both Radwanska and Sharapova can overtake Azarenka for the top title but it will only happen if Azarenka loses early and either Sharapova and Radwanska wins the title.

In the race to the WTA championships, Radwanska inched closer to the no. 2 position held by Azarenka. The runner-up finish of Romania's Simona Halep allowed her to reach the top 20 at no. 19.
