Wozniacki's Boyfriend, Rory McIlroy, is Golf's new #1

Caroline Wozniacki’s boyfriend is now golf’s world #1. And he did it by winning a major title. Rory McIlroy, the young talented Irish golfer, won the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens in Florida last Sunday to claim the #1 ranking in the golf’s world rankings. McIlroy first confirmed that he was dating then WTA #1 Caroline Wozniacki in August 2011, but there was much speculation about their relationship months before that.

Back then, McIlroy told reporters it would be fine to refer to Wozniacki as his girlfriend. He was seen attending some of Wozniacki’s matches at the 2011 US Open. "Why it's going so well is that we have so much in common," he said. "Obviously, different sports, but we're pretty much in the same position at a young age and we can talk about things that probably a lot of 21, 22-year olds can't talk about. It's nice to have someone that sort of understands what you're going through."

Wozniacki’s Twitter account displayed her greetings for the new world #1. Unlike Wozniacki who ascended to the top spot in women’s tennis with her consistency in raking up ranking points at smaller tournaments, McIlroy actually won the 2011 U.S. Open – one of the four major titles in golf alongside The Masters, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship. Wozniacki has previously been criticized for spending a total of 67 weeks as world #1 while never winning a Grand Slam championship. The closest Wozniacki came to winning a major was reaching the finals of the 2009 US Open before losing to comeback queen Kim Clijsters in straight sets.

Wozniacki is very popular in her home country of Denmark. Guess which country produces the second most number of online searches for Wozniacki? Yes, it is Ireland – where McIlroy hails from.
