Indian Wells 2012 Prize Money is $1M for Singles Winners

>> Thursday, March 1, 2012

The Indian Wells 2012 tennis tournament to be held March 5-18, 2012 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California will award a staggering prize of $1 MILLION to its men and women’s singles champion. It will be the largest prize money ever offered by a combined tournament, and will be the biggest prize money in tennis outside of the Grand Slams and year-ending championships. Furthermore, the singles finalists, semi-finalists and quarterfinalists will now earn $500,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively. The prize money earnings of tennis players have been increased for all rounds of the tournament.

Overall, the Indian Wells 2012 prize money total which includes both singles and doubles competition is $11.07 Million. By comparison, the Indian Wells tennis tournament in 2008 offered a total of $5.84 Million. That’s an increase of almost 100% in five years. It is a possibility, especially on the women’s side, for a player to go home with a total of $1,120,500. This scenario can happen if a player wins both the singles and doubles title. Vera Zvonareva won the singles title in 2009 and teamed up with Victoria Azarenka to also win the doubles title. Lindsay Davenport achieved the same in 2000. On the men’s side, Rafael Nadal won the doubles title with Marc Lopez in 2010 although he didn’t win the singles title that year. Andy Roddick won the 2009 doubles title with now top-ranked American Mardy Fish.

World #1 players Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka are the favorites to win the title here, but both will certainly face motivated challenges from other players who also want to take home the title and the $1 Million top prize money earnings. See below for the:
