>> Wednesday, March 14, 2012

Angelique Kerber of Germany won for the first time in four meetings against #8-seed and reigning French Open champion Na Li to reach her first ever Indian Wells semifinals. In their 2 most recent meetings, Kerber managed to win just five games against the Chinese #1. On Wednesday, it was Kerber who came out on top during their featured night match in the Stadium 1 of the BNP Paribas Open. Kerber beat Li in straight sets 64 62 to keep alive her hope of winning her second tournament this season. Kerber won the Paris tennis tournament early in February for her first career WTA title. She reached her career high #19 ranking before the Indian Wells 2012 tennis tournament and is projected to rise again when the new WTA rankings are released next Monday. Kerber had two comeback wins against young American players in this year's tournament. She saved two match points in her second round match against Sloane Stephens and three in her fourth round win over Christina McHale.
