Rafael Nadal won the Internazionali BNL d'Italia 2012 title beating world no. 1 Novak Djokovic 75 63 in a reversal of last year's final result. It was the sixth title for Nadal at the Roma, Foro Italico in the past eight years, with Djokovic being the champion in the other two years. Nadal's win means he will rise up to world no. 2 in the new rankings this week and that he'll be seeded second in this year's French Open. He overtook Roger Federer who rose to no. 2 after winning the Madrid tennis tournament last weekend. With the victory, the Spaniard earns €460,260 in prize money and 1000 ranking points. Djokovic takes home the runner-up prize money of €225,680 and 600 ranking points.

The other two semifinalists - Roger Federer and David Ferrer - earned €113,580 in prize money and 360 ranking points. In the year-to-date career prize money leaders, Djokovic remains on top of the leader board with almost $4 million in prize money this year. Nadal overtakes Federer in the no. 2 position and with his earnings this week raises his year-to-date haul past the $3 million mark. David Ferrer stays at no. 5 behind Andy Murray in no. 4.

In the career prize money list, Nadal remains a distant second behind Federer but will raise his total beyond the $48 million mark. Djokovic will stay at no. 4 position while Murray closes in the no. 9 position held by retired Swedish tennis legend Stefan Edberg. Murray is the only player in the top 10 career prize money leaders who has not won a single Grand Slam or has not reached the no. 1 world ranking.
