Next Tournaments for Sharapova, Serena, Azarenka, Top 25 WTA Tennis Stars

>> Monday, April 30, 2012

In the next six weeks, fans of women's tennis will be treated to a variety of tennis tournaments featuring the best and the brightest talent in the WTA tour. Starting next week, three premier-level tennis tournaments offering more than $8 million in prize money will be held one after the other in the European cities of Madrid, Rome, and Brussels. Immediately after the championship match in Brussels, first round play will commence at the second tennis Grand Slam of the year - the French Open 2012 at Roland Garros. Do you know where your favorite tennis player will play next?

Three players this year have distanced themselves achievement-wise from the rest of the field. World #1 Victoria Azarenka won a league-leading four titles this season so far lifting trophies in Sydney, Doha, Indian Wells and her first Grand Slam in Melbourne. She failed to win her first clay court title this year by falling to #2 Maria Sharapova in the finals last Sunday at Stuttgart. Sharapova won her first title of the year at Stuttgart but finished three other times - at Melbourne, Indian Wells and Miami.

World #4 Agnieszka Radwanska is having the best start of her season by winning two tournament titles at Dubai and Miami. She has lost only to one player this year - albeit five times to top ranked Azarenka. Muddling the race is 13-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams. Serena won her first title this year demolishing a field in Charleston that included former French Open runner-up and defending US Open champion Samantha Stosur. Serena is playing Rome and Madrid as tune-up for Roland Garros where she has made clear that she's serious to get another trophy to add to her lone 2002 French Open win.

19 of the world's top 20 will participate in Madrid with the exception of injured German player and 12th-ranked Andrea Petkovic. World #3 Petra Kvitova is the defending champion. All top 20 players are playing in Rome, including defending champion Sharapova. Radwanska and world #7 Marion Bartoli are the only top 10 players entered in Brussels. The lack of elite player participation even for this premier-level tournament is understandable considering its proximity to Roland Garros. Check the list below for the next tournaments of Sharapova, Serena, Azarenka, Radwanska and other top tennis stars.
