Nadal vs Ronaldo battle in Nike Commercial

Two global superstars – one in TENNIS and one in FOOTBALL – both sharing NIKE as their sponsors, came together to star in a shoe commercial that is now going viral online. Men’s tennis world #2 Rafael Nadal and popular Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo are featured in Nike’s newest Mercurial Vapor VIII commercial. The full commercial, 1:36 minutes, is uploaded in Youtube on March 29,2012, and has gathered over 4.3 million views so far.

The 25-year old Nadal is a former world #1 in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP tour). He is currently ranked #2 behind Novak Djokovic. He is nicknamed as the “King of Clay” for his dominance in clay court events and tennis experts regard him as the greatest clay court player of all time. He has won 10 Grand Slam titles in his career so far, including a record six French Open titles and includes winning the 2008 Olympic gold medal in his resume. He is the youngest player to have won all four Grand Slams and only the second player to have won all majors + Olympics gold. Nadal is also a team member in the Spanish Davis Cup teams that won the title in 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Ronaldo, whose full name is Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, is a year older than Nadal at 26. He plays as a winger /striker in Spain’s La Liga club Real Madrid, and is the most expensive player in football history. His latest contract in a transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid indicated a deal worth €94 million, and is currently amongst the highest paid football players worldwide with an annual salary of €12 million. In 2007, at the age of 22, Ronaldo was the first player ever to win all four main PFA and FWA awards. Ronaldo is also a captain of the Portuguese national football team and has represented Portugal in the last two World Cup tournaments.

Off the tennis courts, Nadal has recently become seriously involved in Spanish football. He is an avid fan of Real Madrid, Ronaldo’s football club. He is a known fan of the Spanish national football team, which allowed him access to the team’s locker room after Spain’s 2010 FIFA World Cup victory.
