Click here. | Preview: World #5 and current US Open champion Samantha Stosur of Australia set-up another exciting match-up with Serena Williams when she beat two opponents on Friday including Serena’s older sister Venus. Stosur showed her fitness in winning two three set matches in one day to advance to the semifinals. Earlier in the day, Stosur won her third round match that was postponed yesterday due to rain by beating Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan 63 46 62. With the win, Stosur prevented a semifinal contest between Venus and Serena.

Stosur regrouped later in the day to stop Venus 63 46 63 and moved to her second semifinal of the year after being a finalist in the Doha tennis tournament. Venus is playing in just her second tournament of the year and has reached the quarterfinal stage twice already. She is one of five former champions in this Charleston tournament who reached the quarterfinals this year.

The ninth meeting between Serena vs Stosur match will be broadcast live online through video streaming here. Serena currently holds a 5-3 advantage in their career head to head series including winning their fourth round match last month in straight sets. It is Stosur however who owns the biggest win in their career match-up having beaten a red-hot Serena in the finals of the 2011 US Open to capture her first ever Grand Slam title. Stosur’s victory in the US Open finals is one of the biggest upset so far in Grand Slam history, similar to the shocking win of a 17-year old Sharapova over top seeded Serena in the 2004 Wimbledon tournament.

The two players have earlier played just one match in clay with Stosur saving a match point in her 6-2 6-7(2) 8-6 victory over then world #1 Serena in the quarterfinals of the 2010 French Open. Stosur used that victory to reach her first Slam final.

Serena is playing in her first semifinal of the year. She lost in the fourth round of the US Open and in the quarterfinals of the Miami tournament. She is aiming for her 40th WTA career title, and if she reaches the finals, she will extend her record career prize money beyond the $35 million mark – the most earnings for any professional female athlete.

Both Serena and Stosur were previous champions in this Family Circle Cup tennis tournament. On the top half of the draw, the other semifinalists will be decided when Vera Zvonareva goes up against Lucie Safarova, and Polona Hercog battles former champion Nadia Petrova. Whatever happens on the other side of the draw, it is projected that the winner of the Serena vs Stosur semifinal will go on to win the title.
