The defending champions in both the men's and ladies singles draw are world #1 Novak Djokovic and former world #1 Caroline Wozniacki. Djokovic also won the title in 2008 while Wozniacki reached her second straight final last year after falling to champion Jelena Jankovic in 2010.

Indian Wells 2012 – Tennis Players

The top 10 players in the world for both ATP and WTA tours have confirmed attendance in the Indian Wells 2012 tennis tournament. The men’s field will be led by world #1 Novak Djokovic, #2 Rafael Nadal, and #3 Roger Federer. This tournament is Nadal’s first tournament after losing to Djokovic in the Australian Open 2012 singles final. Nadal was champion in the tournament in 2007 and 2009, while Federer is the only player to have three straight titles from 2004 to 2006. The US men’s campaign will be led by top American players Mardy Fish and John Isner. Former world #1 Andy Roddick who reached the finals in 2010 before losing to Ivan Ljubicic is also entered.

The ladies field will be headlined by world #1 Victoria Azarenka who has already won three tournaments this year and has not been beaten so far, world #2 and 2006 champion Maria Sharapova, world #3 and Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, and defending champion Wozniacki. Wozniacki will have her hands full in being able to defend her title as she is struggling with inconsistent results so far this year. She has failed to win any of the tournaments she entered this season and has fallen to #4 in the world rankings after starting the year as #1. Two former champions will be missing in the draw – Kim Clijsters who won in 2003 and 2005 has withdrawn due to an injury while top American player Serena Williams have boycotted the Indian Wells tournament since winning her second title in 2001.
