Tennis Miami 2012 - Players

19 of the top 20 players in the ATP tour have confirmed attendance in the tennis tournament at Miami. World #2 Rafael Nadal hasn't won this title in the past, and would be hoping to add this tournament to his growing collection of tennis titles. World #3 Roger Federer was the back-to-back champion in 2005 and 2006. The other member of men's tennis big four - Andy Murray - won the title in 2009. American Andy Roddick won this tennis tournament in 2004 and 2010 but will not be seeded this year as his ranking has plummeted below the top 16. However, two American players in the top 20 will be expected to contend - #8 Mardy Fish and #17 John Isner.

On the women's side, all top 30 players are in attendance. Top challengers to Azarenka's title will be 5-time champion Serena Williams, world #2 Maria Sharapova, Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and 2-time champion Kim Clijsters. Sharapova has not won the title but has shown good form in the past 12 months including reaching the finals at Wimbledon and the Australian Open. Svetlana Kuznetsova is also entered in the tournament; Kuznetsova won in 2006 and joins Serena, Clijsters, and Azarenka as the only winners in this tournament in the past 10 years.
