The Australian Open 2012 prize money rewards the Men's and Women's Singles champions with AUS$2.3 million each. The losing finalists will each take home AUS$1.15 million. This is a hefty reward for a two-week effort playing 7 tennis matches.

Serena Williams, the top earning women's athlete (not just in tennis) of all time will not have a chance to vie for the top prize this year as she was eliminated in the fourth round. So is current world #1 Caroline Wozniacki. Still in the hunt for the top prize is last year’s champion Kim Clijsters of Belgium. Clijsters eliminated Wozniacki in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

In the men’s event, Roger Federer, the top earning men’s tennis player of all time is through to the semifinals and has still a shot of winning the top Australian Open prize money. He will be battling against Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. World #1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic is also still in the hunt as he reached the quarterfinals and will be looking to advance to the semifinals by beating David Ferrer.
