Davis Cup 2012 Quarterfinals: USA vs France

>> Monday, April 2, 2012

The Davis Cup 2012 quarterfinal tie between France and the United States will be broadcast live through various TV channels worldwide and highlights will be available through video here. Live tennis action will come directly from the prestigious venue of the Monte Carlo Country Club in Roquebrune, France. The tie will be the 16th match-up between the two nations with proud tennis histories and will be done from April 6 to April 8.

France vs the USA in Davis Cup dates all the way back to 1905 and is one of the oldest rivalries in this tennis competition between nations. The USA has a small lead in their head-to-head with an 8-7 advantage. They’ve met twice in the last 10 years, with France defeating the United States 3-2 in the 2002 Davis Cup semifinal hosted in Rolland Garros, Paris on clay courts. Team USA beat France in the 2008 Davis Cup quarterfinal 4-1 held at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem on hard courts.

They’ve split their ties when it comes to Davis Cup finals played – the United States took a 4-1 victory in the 1982 Davis Cup final while the French came out on top 3-1 in the 1991 Davis Cup final. The French team this year are looking for a third consecutive semifinal berth and they will be led by world #6 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and #14 Gael Monfils. The US team will be led by world #9 Mardy Fish and #11 John Isner. The top ranked doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan will also be playing the pivotal doubles match.

France will be hosting the tie in outdoor red clay courts to enhance their advantage over the less successful American clay court players. But, the US team will be approaching the match-up with confidence after overcoming the Swiss team lead by Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka in European clay in the previous round. France is led by team captain Guy Forget while the USA team is captained by former world #1 and 2-time French Open champion Jim Courier.
