It is a player and fan favourite due to its magnificent location and long tradition of champions. Nadal holds the most titles with seven consecutive tournament wins since 2005. He holds the best win-loss record of the tournament having won an impressive thirty-nine matches against forty played.

This year, Nadal and Djokovic are joined in the draw by most top ten players with the exception of Roger Federer and Americans Mardy Fish and John Isner. Andy Murray of Great Britain is seeded third, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France is seeded fourth and David Ferrer of Spain is seeded fifth. Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic is seeded sixth followed by Janko Tipsaveric of Serbia. Eight seed is Nicolas Almagro of Spain, ninth seed is Gilles Simon of France, and the tenth seed is Feliciano Lopez of Spain.

The official name of the tournament is MONTE-CARLO ROLEX MASTERS. It is an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament and it is held in Monte-Carlo Monaco. There are 56 players in the singles main draw with the top 8 seeds receiving a first round draw. The surface is played on clay and total prize money is € 2,427,975.
